Default Infra-red Question

Is there any particular settings you need to do/modifications to your camera for this ? I have an alpha-350, I had a little play with it but had to go to 2 minuite exposures and 3200iso, what do people suggest ?

Some cameras are just more IR sensitive than others. Some, all you need is a screw on IR filter, which makes focusing very hard, unless you prefocus and then screw the filter on, and some you will need to have the sensor filter replaced with a visible light filter, which makes focusing easier, but it will still be different.

They can give you tons of information.

If you have an unmodified camera, long exposures are going to be par for the course. I found my Hoya R72, on my Canon XT, added about a dozen stops to the exposure.

I actually didn't find focusing to be that hard, since the autofocus works pretty well, but I typically just stop down to f/8 anyway, so I don't have to worry too much about critical focus.

Obviously, you want a tripod and either use a timer or cable release, and (if you have it) mirror lock-up.

Chlorophyll reflects infrared, so finding greenery to turn white is always fun. And water tends to absorb infrared, so finding bodies of water to turn black is also fun. Finding both together is kind of the bonus round.

Custom white balance and channel swapping are the most common forms of post-processing.
