New Portrait Setup...Need Help!

Hi,

I have a Nikon D40 and an as-15 sta
I just bought a stobe/softbox from Fotodiox and I can't get the strobe to fire.
I was able to get a cheaper strobe to fire using the as-15 but can't get the new and of course more expensive strobe to fire. Camera is set to manual f5 ss 1/60

Can anyone help? Do I need something else to make the strobe fire? Will this strobe not work with a D40?

What kind of system are you using to trigger the strobes? They dont work on magic.

I just found the strobe setup is missing the trigger so that's probably the problem.
i'm very new to this!
