Default I think I know... but just to make sure

I have a phoenix bounce flash that I used recently for a "photoshoot". Towards the end the flash all of a suddenly stopped working... I even tried new batteries, and the warming up lights would barley turn on. After the family left, I was trying to convince my husband that I really really needed a new flash asap (since I have another shoot this Sat). We turned it back on... and it worked.

Did I just over use it? I took about 50 pictures on the high flash setting.

What do you think?

Thanks!

I am not familiar with the unit you mentioned. Have you tried to use your flash since your posting? I recall reading that some flash units have a thermal protection circuit to prevent the unit from overheating as the flash tube can become quite hot, particularly if used in a strobe mode or from a rapid sequence. If this is not the problem then you possibly do need a new flash unit.

How quickly in a row? Most flashes warn against overheating, and sounds likely that that's what happened.

Just as an aside, you can generally adjust your settings so that you don't have to use your flash on high setting -- opening up the aperture or bumping your ISO a bit will usually let you get away with pumping less flash in.

But listen I am happy to help you out with your home situation -- I am always on the side of gear acquisition, so I say Yes! Yes! you need a new flash and your husband should get on board.
