Default How did they do this?

Hi Everyone,

I am completely transfixed by this image and I wonder if anyone can help me.
Are they yellow and red gels? How does the red get captured "Just in the eye and not spill all over the face"
Any my biggest question - how is the image so CRYSTAL CLEAR - low ISO - lots of post production....

I know they had red and yellow balloons in this shot - is it the light coming thru the balloons>

what are your thoughts comments???

I could be wrong, but a lot of it looks like makeup and post processing to me. The balloons could have introduced yellow and pink color casts as well adding to the effect.

Makeup + lighting + postwork. The colour is added in post as a colour overlay layer.

Those colours definitely look as if they've been added in post - the giveaway (for me) is the curve of the edge of the yellow section. If it was done with a light, then that edge of the pool of light would be affected by the line of the model's cheekbone, which isn't the case (unless she's actually got a REALLY odd-shaped face, which I doubt ).

As for the clarity - that's what you get when you use a decent lens and have your lighting, exposure, focus etc absolutely spot on. A decent camera helps too - I got to play with the Hasselblad H3D50 when it had just been launched, and took a 3/4 length portrait of a model - you can zoom in close enough on that to see the edge of her contact lens before the image starts to pixellate... I'd consider swapping a relative for one of those cameras...

Russ.

I think the lights are post production. Looks like they created a blank layer, painted the one side of her face that pinkish color, the other side yellow, changed the mode to something like soft light, and then gaussian blurred it significantly.
