WHen it comes to RAW there isnt much to say. You shoot just as you normally would (just in the RAW mode) and then process using a RAW processor. The RAW processor will dictate how and what you do.

Using Lightroom, you can click on the "auto" button and it will process your RAW as your camera would do to create the JPEG so you cannot "miss" a picture by taking it in RAW. For the rest, trials and errors. The post production section of this site has some information, but you'll get a better idea where to look when you'll face a problematic situation (ie: you want to lower the exposure of your subject but keep to existing background exposure). I started with framing properly (crop and staight horizon) than look for more complicated stuff as I was getting more comfortable.
