The primary difference between Auto and P modes is that in Auto you cannot adjust anything, whereas in P mode, if you turn the dial, you can adjust the shutter speed and the camera will adjust the other settings to give you the same exposure.

So, what this means is if, for example, you're taking a picture of something that's moving quickly, and in auto mode because of light it gives you a setting of a shutter speed of 1/100 and an aperture of f/8, but you're still getting blur, so if you go to P mode, you could say change the shutter speed to 1/300 and it will change the aperture, etc while keeping the same exposure.

Not sure if this helps explain the difference, but hopefully it's a start.

Medium flickr size sounds good to me as well.

1) shot for one month in shutter priority mode
2) shot for one month in aperture priority mode
3) shot for one month in manual mode

after those three months i gained a much better understanding of exposure. i now find myself shooting in aperture priority mode the most, unless the situation dictates otherwise.
I think I'm going to start doing that tomorrow, thanks for the suggestions Ron!

More specifically, 500px as the longest edge. If you have photos hosted on an external service, like Flickr, put in a link so people can jump there and view it larger. However, when pictures are too large it throws out the spacing of the page, makes things load slowly, costs more DPS bandwidth (as numbers mount, that could become an important factor) and also prevents people from getting an easy overview of the page.

Mods and admins on the site are discussing ways to automatically keep picture sizes down but the best way is for people to do it voluntarily
