Default shaped bokeh with point and shoot

i have a canon s5is P&S camera and a lensmate 52mm filter adaptor and was wondering if anybody has had sucess getting shaped bokeh from a p&s. I just made myself a "lens cap" out of black construction paper held on to the adaptor with an elastic band. I also would like to know how small to make the shape. Should the shape be smaller than the pictures I have seen of this technique done with SLRs online? Would having the "lens cap shape" on the adaptor instead of directly touching the lens make a difference.
I realize that for this technique to work properly you need to use a wide open aperture and that p&s cameras don't produce near as fuzzy bokeh as SLRs, but would taking a macro shot of something really close with lights in the distance give me more of a chance of success?

thanks,
Rob

From what I understand about shaped bokeh, you have to make the shape smaller than the aperture that you're using to make it work right. So try setting your camera to the the settings you want, look at your lens and make the shape smaller than the aperture that you see, and chuck the lights far enough into the distance that they become super out of focus.

Let me know if it works. I don't own a p&s but I'm still super curious about this.
