That can be a major factor.
This was my guess, all of my lenses produce the same thing, including the color, when I put on a filter.

I use a UV filter that came with my lens?

Yup, looks like lens flare or a cheapo filter. Shooting into the sun without a lens hood is just stupid and unprofessional,
unless you know what you are doing (which you obviously don't).
Luckily, you are not stupid, looking at your flickr I can see that you were lying when you said
Your rudeness is not appreciated and it's highly inappropriate. Your attitude towards me can be taken elsewhere. Thank you.

Wow... cool it, both! This is totally unnecessary -- this was actually a pretty useful thread up until the sniping started.

I went over to Brent's Fliker page and looked at a few pictures. Brent, I think that you may become a good photographer, someday. However, for now I'd stay away from weddings. Your conceptional eye is not too bad but you need to work on composition, focus, work really hard on depth of field, and you really need to re-think shooting into the sun, at least move around until you get the type of lens flare that compliments the image. CONSTRUCTIVE advice....Chris

Wow. Indigo, you encouraged me to invite my 15-year-old friend to DPS and this is precisely the behavior I'd hoped to keep from him. You've proven my point for me.

For what it's worth, I enjoy Brent's photography and his passion for wanting to always improve. I don't always agree with his methods or style but it's his, unique to him and I can admire it for that.

Your friend can learn from my mistakes too. I make plenty, and I try to put them out there so people can learn from them.

Lying is an attempt to deceive. There is a difference between lying, misunderstanding and exaggeration. On a forum such as this where there are many people for whom English is not a first language and many for whom photography terminology is fairly new, I would caution you to assume first that there is a misunderstanding rather than choosing a course of name-calling.
