Your lens is as follows:
15x f3.5-5.4 27.6-414mm-equivalent lens. So that means: Zoomed all the way OUT @ 27.6mm you will have f3.5 Zoomed all the way IN (15X) @ 414mm you will have f5.4 As your MINIMUM f stops The lowest you can go is f3.5 period.

ok ok wvcoalminer - I get it -not a very good camera lol - but my point and shoot one broke and it was a fuji finepix something or other and it was a good little camera - so I thought this one would be a 'step up' which in a way it is!! - eventually will get a better one when I learn how to use them!! - AND I will manage - god knows how to blur my background with it (even if I die trying lol) watch this space......

Look at the doF calculator - you can get a blurred background with your camera - put it in portrait mode... that might help...
