Default Difficulty with blurred images

I have a Canon Rebel and lately have been having a hard time depending on my camera to give me sharp, non-blurry images when using P (and sometimes AV) mode. Do you think the camera is using too small an f/stop when I shoot in P mode? I am taking pictures of fast-moving kids, but am still frustrated that the shots are not always sharp... any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks!

It's possible. There are a few things that could be happening.
1. Too slow a shutter speed: This could be caused by the camera choosing too small an f/stop or too little light in the area (of course, it may also be a combination of those things, especially if there's low light)
2. Mis-Focus: If your child is running around, your camera might just miss the focus and you might wind up with a blurry image.
3. Camera Shake: If you're using a long lens and your shutter speed isn't fast enough, you might also be getting shake from that.

If you have an example photo with the EXIF, that would help a lot in determining what the actual problem is. The main info we'd be looking at is: Lens, Shutter Speed, Aperture, and ISO.

Thanks Nicole!

I was using a 50mm/1.8 lens on P mode. The camera chose f/2.0 and 1/50 shutter speed for this result...

Wondering if it's a low-light situation?

i definitely think it is...you have a killer combo of small depth of field and a shutter speed that's a little low for hand held.....the only way i see to get around that is to bite the bullet and go for 800iso.....or hit the scene with a little bounced flash.....
