Default self timer PROBLEMS!! :o

So I have been trying to use my self timer lately and I find that by the time I step in front of the camera and it snaps the picture and I'm looking at it on the camera... its BLURRY!!!! how do I get it to focus on me after I'm already away from the camera?!

Thanks,
Lindsie

Put something exactly where your head is going to be, focus on it, then press the shutter release, and run over to sit where your focus point was.

I use a skull on a light stand.

In addition to WooD's great tip, get the deepest DoF you can manage under your conditions as well..

You can also try using a smaller aperture to get more DoF so the focusing isn't as critical.

Or, you could blow some money on a cable release or remote, and use the half-press capability to set the focus before taking the shot.

Ok that scared the heck out of me! Haha.
The thing is that I have tried something like that. I set my camera on my bed and (im not kidding) I stick my leg out and focus on my foot. I probably look like a weirdo to anyone who might walk into my room at that minute but I don't know what else to do! And the pictures still turn out like this:

Photobucket
That one is better then this one:
Photobucket
but it still has an "unfocused" look to it... It upsets me.

And I was considering buying a remote... I just don't know which one to get because I don't want to spend 20+bucks on the remote PLUS shipping because its always cheaper online.

*Sigh*
Thanks,
Lindsie

I use manual focus on something where my head will be. (Like the skull idea!), then use your self timer or remote. Depending on what you want you can adjust your F stop setting, and speed to suit the lighting.

It doesn't look like a flash is going off in these...that could be part of your problem.....You might not be still enough for the camera to freeze you.....inside with no flash will guarantee a slow shutter speed, hence the blur from unintended movement
