When you process the RAW file, you save it as a JPEG, right? So, what's the advantage of using a RAW converter to make the JPEG compared to the in camera JPEG??

Thanks!

Wrong.
For me it is saved as a 16 bit PSD for printing.

Only saved as a jpg for web use. You control the output, not the camera. IE: Levels/saturation etc and most importantly sharpening - either for print or for web.

If were talking purely sharpness then shooting JPEG with out sharpening in camera would give very similar if not the same results as a RAW file in fact a JPEG may give slightly sharper results before any processing has been done to the RAW as sharpening usualy has to be applied after the image has been rendered from a RAW file.

Sharper pictures will usualy come from lens, focus, apreture choice and actual method of sharpening in your choice of software not from file types.

Using RAW means YOU get to control how the edits are made from "information from the sensor" to "a finished image". It gives you so much more control over the look of an image.

I never shoot in RAW and never use a tripod either...not for wildlife...in my opinion, you lose too many quick opportunities with a tripod....but that's just me.
