Default Fog Machine

It just dawned on me that using a fog machine could be pretty cool... has anyone ever tried it?

I used one a while back. I had a monolight on a floor stand with a red gel.

Very cool shots. This reminds me of a Halloween effect that I made for a friends display several years ago. I put a small turntable (battery operated @ about 10 RPM), inside of a plastic witches cauldron. I put a handful of fake glass gemstones on a compact mirror, on the turntable. I wired a laser pointer up to an AC adapter (to save on batteries), and mounted it pointing at the mirror. I then ran a hose from my fog machine to the bottom of the cauldron. As the fog boiled up out of the cauldron, the laser would defract through the gemstones and radiate out of the fog. The effect was a hit with the neighborhood Trick or Treaters, but since I wasn't into photography at the time, I have no still shots. I do have some old VHS video of the display, but I bet that if I used a fast enough shutterspeed, I could get some pretty interesting shots. Thanks for re-awakening my imagination.
