Default Scan Disk

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but hopefully the modes will move it if not.

Do any of you think that the Scan Disk has some determining factor in the quality of your photo? Does name brand matter? GB? Does it get old after some many photos taken and deleted off of it? Just your general opinions and advise on this.

Thanks

Are you referring to the memory card company Sandisk? If so, the 2 major selling points that they have are reliability and speed.

They are reliable in that you can use the cards for many years without any problems. They have a warranty if you do. I have used my Extreme III card for 2 years of heavy shooting and have never had a single problem.

For speed, they are the fastest cards out there. When you take a photo in raw, the file sizes are very large. With my camera, they hit 23MB each. Saving that onto a memory card requires a lot of speed, especially if you like to shoot in burst mode, hitting 5 photos per second. If you memory card can write that information quick enough, you can get corrupt images or your camera will slow down to the speed of the card.

The Sandisk cards, especially the Extreme III (rated at 30mbps) are well worth the money.

I didn't really mean Scan Disk as the company, more the card that we use in the D90. I use the Scan Disk and the Lexor. Neither have anything wrote on them about Extreme III or anything like that.
Thanks

Amazon.com: SanDisk Extreme III 4 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card SDSDRX3-4096-A21: Electronics

Like this? It's memory card made by Sandisk. I recommend the extreme III version of their cards because they are... Just read my last post.

The SD card actually stands for SECURE DIGITAL. SanDisk was just one of the first manufacturers for it.

Memory cards have no bearing on your images whatsoever.

Really, I was told that if I was going to keep shooting Barrel Racing that I would need a faster SD card!

That would be if you are shooting in burst mode (several frames per second.) A "faster" card can record the data quickly so you can keep shooting. I believe the speed here is reflected in the class of the card, class 6 being the best currently. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me rephrase: Memory cards have no impact on the QUALITY of your images. The speed of the card (some are now at CLASS 10!) impacts the framerate you can handle, but you will get to a point, especially with the lower bodies, where the limiting factor is the camera's ability to clear it's cache.

You may want to use memory card that is faster than the DSLR write speed to prevent the memory card acts as a bottleneck.

I read from dpreview* that the D90 is faster than Class 6 so you can consider using SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s or Class 10 SD cards to shoot Barrel Racing.

Thanks for all of your replies. I will make sure that from now on that I purchase a better memory card than I have available to me here at Wal Mart.
