Default a little help please ???

ok so i have this question on one of my assignments that i just cant interpret so i was wondering if anyone knows what they are talking about???
the question is :


"You are at the grand prix and want to photograph the speeding cars. If you are using an automatic digital camera, what setting do you use? and if u can change it to manual, tell me what your settings would be & why?

if anybody knows can u please help ??? its doing my head in!!!!

b) Iso 400;1/000sec @ f 11-If you want to freeze motion

While Ken provided a very reasonable answer, perhaps you (Jemma87) could explain to us what you don't understand about the question. Getting the answer won't do you any good if you don't understand why that's a good answer.

yu'll get good photos with what ken told you. but if you want to be "adventurous". you can use a slower shutter speed 120/sec and pan with the subject to get a blurred bg and in focus subject. but this needs practice.

ok what i didnt understand was : when it says automatic camera does it mean a P & S or SLR, some P & S u dont have a manual setting... i understand everything about the settings, it was just that part of the question.

I read it as being a point and shoot... But I think you could read it as either... And yep, Ken's got you covered...

If you're using a compact (P&S) some do have manual settings, so maybe that's what they meant? like the Canon G series, the Ricoh's the Sigma... A couple of the Ixus models... But yeah, largely I think the question is a bit badly worded.
