Cake Smash shoot - plexiglass?

In a few weeks I'm doing a cake smash shoot, and I wanted the baby to sit on plexiglass so it would create a reflection.

After much research, a 4x4 foot piece of plexiglass would cost me almost $200! Or I could get two 2x4 pieces and put them beside each other.. but then there would be a seem I think.

So should I just forget about the plexiglass, or would a 2x4 piece work?

I'd say skip the plexi....
It's not a product shoot after all. Closeups will be more in order anyways.

If it's not too late, you could try a cheap mirror and buy a roll of window tint fairly cheap. If you have your heart set on plexi, check the phonebook for acrylic shops and ask for scraps and stuff. I've scored tons of free scraps just for asking.

You're just wanting the baby to sit on it just for reflection? Will it have to support the kid? Does it have to be clear, or just reflective? For $200 I assume that's the price for 1/4" thick plexiglass and a whole lot of shipping? If your not supporting the kid you can go with alot thinner material. I went to Professional Plastics web site. Plastic Sheet, Plastic Rod, Plastic Tubing & Plexiglass - Buy Online And here's some prices of material without shipping. Maybe it will give you some ideas for different materials to use. Then you can call your local plastic supplier. Hopefully they can give you more advice on different sheets and prices than I have.
