Hello
New to the board, been reading it for a long time and just today after returning from holidays, i decided to join ![]() Ive been taking pictures of the moon, with relative success until last night @ beach, for some reason, i just couldnt take it and after several attempts i realized it was better to go out for and walk with family rather than keep trying. What could be it be? Wind? Camera shake due waves hitting the hotel's wall? Marine fog? sky looked pretty clean, im not sure, heres the picture, also, another one with a problem in a circle, got this exact problem in the past with a rebel xt (using xsi now) and i wonder how you people clean it thats it, only problems for a first post, but ill make sure to share some pics b4b edit: im not sure why but afte uploading both pics, seems like something is corrupted |

Moved to technique. The lines through the photos are a problem with attachments, so that's not on your end.

The lens is a canon 300mm telephoto image stabilizer off, f somewhere between 9-12 (you know, i change it depending the situation), remote shutter using the canon utility in my laptop and the camera is a canon xsi (sorry for not mentioning all of this, ill make sure to update all information any time soon in my sigline). Sad part is ive been taking pictures of the moon during january with relative success and just when the full moon came, this happened hah!, waiting a month and now ill have to wait another one

It really looks like your focus is off. It could be some shake from not using mirror lockup but that is probably not the issue. How long was your exposure?

![]() As for mirror lockup, i dont use it, here's a good moon shot, im still pissed that i couldnt get something like it! ![]()

Yep looks like a focus problem to me but I can't be sure. You're shooting fast enough that you're not going to overexpose and you're not going to get blur from the motion of the moon. At 1/125 you can rule most camera shake issues out.

yup, oh well i guess ill have to wait another month for full moon. By the way, do you notice the dust in the other pic? what could it be, this happened to me, exactly the same problem, with a rebel xt

I looked but I couldn't tell what I was supposed to be looking at... in the green box? It looks like a highly compressed file so I can't really tell.
But if it's a round spot, it's probably dust on the sensor. Try taking some photos of a blue sky at fairly narrow apertures and see if it shows up consistently. |
