Default Aperture question

The aperture on my Tamron 18-270 lens goes up (down) to 22 -- under what circumstances would one want to use such a small aperture??? Seems like overkill but then I'm new at this ...

Well many will tell you never, but I won't agree and neither will people Like Scott Kelby and other pros. A high f/stop like f/22 might be useful for great depth of field in very bright situations, like at the beach. Its also very good for long exposure shots if you don't have a neutral density filter.

+1

I've used an f/stop that high when I was trying to simulate night time for a vampire themed shoot. I lit the models up with off camera flash after that.

Hell, the Nikon 70-300 VR goes to f/44 at 300mm.

Done that...
