Default Lens Question

I purchased a new tamron 18-200 lens recently and have noticed that in low light, I am not getting the same shutter speed as I did with my sony kit 18-70 lens.

Example. I took an indoor shot with my sony at fl of 18, f3.5. Camera shot it at 1/40 of a second. I changed lens to the tamron and same shot at 18 and 3.5, the camera shot it at 1/125 of a second. Much darker image.

Outside shots are wonderful, but really having problems with this lens inside. Has anyone else run into this problem?

It's probably not the lens, but the camera metering something else.

I have a Sigma 75-300 zoom and it isn't great in low light too. I was told that having a long zoom like that is not great in low lghting that they are good for outside only. Read Maxharvard post The best post on motorsports photography.... it tells all about long lens.

I hope that helps.
