Arrow Adjustable ND Filter

Hi, has anyone used one of these new adjustable Neutral Density filters?

There's a couple on the market from Singh-Ray, Fader ND and Genius and they all look pretty cool as you only need one filter as opposed to carrying 4 or 5 around with you.

Has anyone here used one, if so, what do you think about it?

Cheers,

Jeff

PS I've ordered one so I'll let you know when I get it

I can't give you any help because I've never used one. I would be interested to hear anyones response also. If nothing else, I'll give your post a bump.

When you do get yours, please respond back within this thread. I would like to hear what you think of them.

Are we talking adjustable filters or graduated filters?

I'm assuming this is what they have in mind.

The Singh-Ray is the most expensive by far, but there are others around representing much better value. Look at the Fader ND Filter here: LCW Home

I bought one for £65 delivered. That's about the normal price for a standard ND filter.

I have one of the "fader ND" filters. It was NOT the Singh-Ray but was still a $150 filter. It works but has some minor issues with banding and general image quality. After getting the fader, I got a Hoya ND400. For long exposures, I much prefer the ND400. I only use the fader now if I want to stack them for stupid long exposures.

What do you mean by "Banding"?

Just banded areas of slightly less exposure. Most noticeable when you get close to the darkest limit of the filter.
