Default Nikon D3000 reverse ring

I just purchased a reverse ring for my Nikon D3000 and it doesn't seem to be working. I would like to know if anyone has any experience using a reverse ring with a D3000. The ring is an Ador reverse ring Nikon 52mm. I screwed the ring onto the filter threads of my lens, then mounted it onto the camera body. When I turned the camera on it said there was no lens attached. Any ideas??

Thanks!

I believe all that means is that the camera can't detect the lens because the reverse ring has no electrical contacts that connect with the lens chip. You will have to go into manual ("M") mode to use it, which means finding the right aperture and shutter speed by trial and error (or informed estimation, if you prefer ...).

That was indeed the problem. I switched it to "M" mode and it worked. It's really dark, so I'll have to play around with the lighting, but it works! Thanks.

Just a quick message regarding the mention of needing more light. I forgot to adjust the aperture ring manually. Problem solved.

I too have a Nikon D3000 but as far as I know you can't manually adjust the aperture ring on these lenses ... its controlled by the camera electronics. Can you provide more info please since I am also interested in a reversing ring
Thanks Ron

If you look at the OP's signature, he lists Petri 55mm f/1.8, which does indeed have an aperture ring that can be adjusted. Even without one, you can adjust the aperture of a G-type Nikon lens manually if you have access to the mount-side of the lens during shooting (as you would with it reversed)

I found a DIY on making a reverse ring for nikon cameras. I built one and used it on my 18-55mm kit lens. It's a bit tedious to use and doesn't work as well as I had expected. The only thing in focus is a narrow band across the center of the image. Trying to focus and hold open the aperture is not easy. However, you can get in pretty close with it.
