Default Resizing images for digital picture frames

I have a new digital picture frame (Sony DPF-D92) and I want to know how to resize my images to have the best effect.

The frame has a 16:9 aspect ration and is 800x480 resolution.

I tried to crop the photos to 16x9 inches but it was still very large, and reducing it to 800 pixels at 72 dpi makes the image a bit blurry. So, what's the best process to format my images before transferring them to the frame?

Ah, I just got a digital frame for my wife for Christmas (not a Sony). I haven't been resizing or cropping the pictures - just loading them fullsize and the frame automatically shrinks them, there's some black border if they're not 16:9. Not very memory efficient, I suppose, but it has 1G memory so I figure it'll take a while to fill that up.

Most frames have software that will either resize or auto size for you. When using a 16x9 frame I typically tell it to display with black bars, as the autofll does weird things to most images. There are many freeware packages on the net that will let you do batch resizing of images.

I am in a similar situation. I've done a few tests and seem to get the best results when I crop to to the pixel dimensions (800x480 in your case) then apply a bit of sharpening. To speed things up I intend to write a photoshop action to do it all.

IMO photoshop does a better jobs of scaling the image down than the frame so it's best to give the frame cropped shots. It also saves on storage space and rendering time.

Digital photo frame is so amazingly simple operation provides us with clear and clear images. They are also very handy, you can take them to your friends and neighbors around the house to show off your photos.
