I think I've decided that this will be my next lens, but I was looking for some feedback from people who own it. Are there any drawbacks that you have found? If so is there a comparable lens (price and capabilities) that you would recommend? Thanks for the help!

Why are you choosing a 20mm prime? Are you shooting FX or DX?

I'm impressed by my 50mm nikkor prime's image sharpness. I was under the impression that by and large you get sharper images with these. That being said I'm definitely not as knowledgeable as I could be. I'm trying to get a good lens for a 5 month trip, and time is of the essence. I'm shooting DX. I have a nikon d90.

The question is, why 20mm? Do you want a moderately wide angle lens? Is sharpness of ultimate value to you? (Most sharpness problems are more a result of focusing problems, than lens problems.) Even your "kit" 18-55 lens is decently sharp, and covers the 20mm range for you.
I guess the question is, what do you want a new lens to do for you? What kinds of shooting are you likely to do? Is a fast lens important? Is sharpness really that important? How about weight? Would a zoom be more flexible?
