Default Photoshop error

Help, all of a sudden I am getting errors that say cannot use clone stamp tool because of program error. And when trying to run actions some of them will get to a point and say high pass layer not available,

I tried resetting preferences and that didnt work so I have 2 questions. #1. not all of my actins are saved in a file, they seem to be only in the program. So, how do I back them all up?
#2. any idea what the error is from and how to fix it???? I googled it all ready but didnt find any answers

WIndows or Mac?

If the former, check the HD space and the task manager: make sure you arent somehow using up all your RAM.

Usually errors in PS are a result of the color space and/or bit depth of the photo. Only select filters are available when you are in 16bit (a typical raw image). If you are using an action that uses a filter that only works with 8bit images, and you are using a 16bit image, you will get an error. Like wise for filters that require sRGB color space.

Go to Edit > Mode > check that you are in sRGB and if you are in 16 or 8 bit.

Nope that isnt it.
I may try and just re-load the program but most of my actions are not saved elsewhere. Is there a way to move them out of PS and back them up?

If you open up your photoshop program folder you will see two folders, one is named required and the other presets. You should find your actions in those two folders. Also if you are going to reload the program any plugins that you installed will have to be reinstalled. I had this error message before on a couple of filters I wanted to try and come to find out I had to save the image as a jpeg as the filter would not work on the raw image file.

Checking HD space is easy: Open My Computer, right-click the hard drive and click properties. Generally speaking applications need 1 gig or 2 to run.

Failing that, when youre working, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL which opens the task manager. There should be tabs across the top: hit the one on the right which should display a graph. make sure it's a squiggly line, or at least not maxing out at the top ALL THE TIME.

Other than that, the usual windows trial-and-error methods: Reboot, re-instally, retry.

If you can see the file extensions in that folder( usually 3 letters after the dot) your actions should be the files with ATN for an extension. for example, brushes.act. I'm on my office computer right now so I don't have access to my photoshop program.
