You're not happy with the telephoto reach on the 35-80mm, but the widest angle on the 100-300mm is too much?

Well, that's kind of odd, to be honest. The only focal lengths you are missing are 81-99mm, which isn't all that much. The only thing you can really do is get a lens that covers what you're missing, but there will be some more overlap with your current equipment since there is no 81-99mm lens that I know of.

You should get a lens that covers approx 18mm-135mm (or t18mm - 200mm...) not sure for Canon which one exactly because I have a Nikon, but I am sure that they have similar focal lengths, and there are many options. I also take lots of family stuff, and I find my 18mm - 135mm sits on the camera most of the time and covers alot. However, if you feel like putting a little challenge into your photography, get a 50mm prime. I hear this is the must have lens for just about everything!

Canon actually have a brand new 18-135 IS. It came out along with the 15-85 and the 7D
