Default iPhone users, remote shutter trigger + more

I am new to photography, and Im a tech geek at heart. While browsing thru the app store, I stumbled upon this:

DSLR Camera Remote - onOne Software

Its an application that will allow you to trigger your camera via your iphone. Admittedly Im a sucker for stuff like this. The pro version does significantly more, it appears.

Im at work right now, so Im curious, has any one tried this?

I'll fumble around with it when I get home.

The downfall to this is that it requires the camera to be connected to your computer. If you are going to do that why not just use the computer...It has a larger screen...

I am waiting for something that is a BlueTooth or WiFi Dongle that is controllable from the phone.

i agree I would buy it if it were bluetooth or some other sort of transmission from the phone to the camera.

Haven't tried it. I don't have an iPhone either, so I probably won't anytime soon.

I agree that it's pretty useless since you have to use a computer... if it worked with an Eye-Fi card, that would be useful. Otherwise, you might as well just use the computer it's hooked to.

OTOH, you could, if you had a camera that takes one, get a $800 wi-fi grip for your camera, and then use the browser on the iPhone/iPodTouch and the Wi-Fi connection to wirelessly remotely control your camera and view pictures.

Or, you could just build one of these.

I have the Pro version of it (I bought the pro version for the fact that I could use live view with it and I thought that would be useful with self portraits). I think it works really well. Like I said, I mostly use it for things like self portraits and I will when I get around to it use it with some macro shots as well. The USB thing is a big of a bummer, but I figure for what I'm doing it works. Plus it's way easier to move yourself or move items if you don't have to keep checking the computer screen. Yes, I could use a program on the computer that uses live view, but I'm not sure that the open source one I use for tethering supports live view (or I just can't remember). In any case, the iPhone app was way cheaper than buying the Nikon camera control software In any case, I think it works really well actually.
