Why does it have to be a Sigma?
And are we talking full-frame or crop-sensor?

Guess I goofed by rushing and failed to give that information. Sigma because it's going on a Sigma SD14 camera. Be really nice to have a Nikon to Sigma adapter ring, but I don't think such a thing is made. I barely use this camera and just want a wide angle to carry this body when I'm in the field with long glass on the Nikon.

Alright.
Are you looking for a prime or a zoom? The only FAST UWA lens I could find for the Sigma mount that wasn't a fisheye (diagonal or circular) was a 20mm f/1.8DG (B&H) I dont know if the Sigma cameras use a FX or DX sized sensor. On the former that's a good deal of wide: on the latter, not so much. Sigma also make 24 and 28mm f/1.8 as well as a 30mm f/1.4 (B&H) If you're willing to give on the "FAST" part, Sigma also make 10-20 zooms in f/3.5 and f/4.5-5.6 varieties (the latter being optically better, though slower). These are assuming a DX sensor They also make 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 and 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 lenses for FX that promise to be pretty awesome. Of course, assuming you need fast and wide, you may be better off getting either the 15mm or 10.5mm fisheye and de-fishing.

I am not set on a prime lens as a lot of the zooms are as sharp or close to as sharp as primes. The problem when looking for this lens is that one reviewer will give a great review, then the next person gives a bad review. It is difficult to nail down which lens to go with. I was hoping someone here had used a Sigma wide angle lens on whatever mount and could lend a first hand account. The Sigma camera itself is a crop body and actually takes a fantastic photo. The biggest complaint I would have that limits my usage of this camera is the speed, it's just too slow for a lot of situations. White balance in camera is impossible without doing a custom white balance, adjusting in RAW works great but gives the inexperienced trouble. From a lens standpoint if the glass is good on a different brand of camera it should work on the Sigma. I am leaning to the 20mm, but on the crop sensor it may not be wide enough. De-fishing the fisheye is something I haven't done, so I'll investigate that option. Thanks for your input, it is always appreciated. |

I've been thinking about/researching upgrading my kit lens, and the Sigma 17-70 is on my shortlist of contenders - it has had some good reviews.
