Default Am I expecting too much?

Thanks in advance for all your input.

I have a Nikon D60 and I want to get a prime. I really like the Nikon DX 35mm (which with the crop factor is pretty much a 50mm). I know it's a great deal but even that is a little pricey right now for me. Do any of you have any recommendations for primes for the D60? Off-brand is fine. AF is pretty much a requirement for me. I don't have the patience nor the will to focus every shot (a la Nikon 50mm).

I've Googled and looked around here some but really haven't found anything. Send me some recommendations. Basically I want a lens I can pop on and shoot with, no fuss, no focusing, that takes good pics in low light (the D60 kit lens is less than adqueate in low light).

Am I expecting too much?

Well, you're asking for a small, light, fast prime with AF-S focusing for less than the $200 for a 35mm 1.8, so I'd say you probably are. The only non-Nikon lenses I see that fit the bill are the 30mm and 50mm 1.4 HSM Sigmas, and they're both 2x as much.

Lol, well that would explain why I couldn't find anything out there. Thanks for your time!

I wouldn't hesitate to save up and buy one. I had one back in July (and resold it while they were scarcer than hen's teeth), and now I'm waiting on my new one, and have paid under $200 for each of them. It's a great lens considering it's pretty much the 3rd cheapest AF-S lens, after the 18-55mm VR/non-VR.

Also check for used ones. I just bought one used locally for $100 below new retail. Photo equipment is a lot like golf clubs - lots of like new stuff available at great prices.

35mm is a great lens and is well worth the money. You won't find anything else that will focus with the D60 at the price with that quality.
