Looking For Canon Lens Input

I'm thinking about what kind of photo goodie Santa should bring me this year? I would really like to step up my high school basketball shots this year and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts of me selling my Canon 85mm f1.8 prime and having Santa get me a Canon 55-200mm f2.0 IS Zoom? Would this be worth the switch? I still have my Canon 50mm f1.8 prime for protraits so I wouldn't be shortchanging myself in that department.

I would appreciate any and all input - thanx in advance.

Well, let's start with the biggest issue: there's no such thing as a 55-200 f/2.0 IS lens. Canon make a 55-250 f/4.5-5.6 IS or a 70-200 f/2.8 IS.

If its the former, then no: the 85 will likely give you better results for basketball. If it's the latter, then I could definetly see it being useful, as long as your camera body supports a useable high iso

Thanxs a lot - yes I did mean a 70-200 f/2.8 IS.

Now I guess its time to start checking for the best deals.

I waited until I found a good deal on a 70-200 2.8 IS and got it - I have not regretted that bit of retail therapy one bit! It is a wonderful lens, I have loved having ot on my body. I have the 50D and I find it usable happily right out at 1600.
