Hi,
I have a Nikkor 18-200 AF-S lens, I've had it for about 15 months, and although a good lens, not the one I use the most, so it shouldn't have a lot of wear and tear. Last night I took some pictures from above, pointing the lens downwards and noticed that from about 24mm it will zoom in to about 70mm by itself, it's like the zoom has loosened up and become "slack". I had to use a finger to keep it from zooming as I was taking my pictures. Does anyone else with the same lens experience the same problem? |

It's called Zoom Creep, and it's common with the longer superzooms like the 18-200 and long, heavy lenses. I know the one I had exhibited some creep from 70mm onwards.
The new version has a zoom lock at 18mm, which locks the lens in place at it's shortest setting for walking and so on. Not much use in your case, but hey. I usually have my hand on the zoom ring when shooting anyway: i've never had a problem.
