Default New lens

I am looking for any feed back regarding the Nikon 18-200mm VR. It looks perfect for my needs and was wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom for me.
Thanks,
Al

Here. Try this review.

18-200mm AF-S DX VR Lens Review by Thom Hogan

As long as you don't mind the image quality compromises that are inherent in a superzoom, it sounds like a really good lens, and better than you'd expect for cover a 10x+ zoom range.

If it looks perfect for your needs, then get it. If you have a chance, rent or borrow one just to make sure that it really does fit your needs.

I own the Nikon 18-200 VR, and it's my favorite general-use lens. It's light (compared to, say, almost any 70-200), easy to use, good quality (sure, it's no prime... but that's not why I have it!), and extremely convenient.

I have many "better" and more expensive lenses (i.e 28-70 f2.8, 80-200 f2.8) but for general walkabout with little gear or travel it is quite possibly my favorite. I get great pictures with it. (but, mine is a sigma EX, not nikon)

Just as SK66 said, I have lots of expensive glass, but my 18-200 gets lots of use as a general walk around lens.

I agree with all. It's on my D90 70% of the time.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I think I will see if I can get one to use for a week or so. This glass here (Ontario) is about $800.00 so I had better be sure. I have the 18-105, 55-200 and 70 -300 so I have it all covered but I don't think I will get the same results...???

The Sigma rates a little higher than the Nikon version, but with either I doubt you'll note much difference between it and your other lens. In fact, even with my pro 28-70 and 80-200 f/2.8's the image differences are minor and can only be detailed in side by side comparison....
This is an example of the types of images I've gotten with my 18-200

You are lucky that it is in stock. I got mine at a premium price when it was in its two years' world wide shortage.

You may wish to think twice if the 18-200 VR is to replace your 18-105, 55-200 and 70-300. I would only recommend this lens as a supplement than a primary lens.
