Creating a new website

I'm looking to create a new website for my photos. Currently I use smugmug as my main source of sharing my photos with friends and family, but I want to develop a cleaner, more professional, looking website where I can show my better work.
What are some suggestions for sites/software that can help me do this without breaking my bank?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I really like my Imagekind site, and I have my domain name pointing to it. They have recently introduced the Storefront which presents the images in a very polished way, in my opinion. They have a free service, with a modest fee for a premium membership. I should say, however, that although I have been a member for about a year, I have only sold two greeting cards. But I blame that on my lack of business savvy, not on Imagekind.
