Question about batteries

as a new member and as the first post May I ask u to clear my doubt on a simple n basic one ?
When selecting a camera, of now, I ve started giving some importance towards de type of power source-Between the battery packs and the 4 individual batteries-.The indivi batteries tend to get discharged sooner than the packs and need to be replaced sooner, i feel. pls tell me how far i am right ?The canon powershot SX 10 IS, for example is the one I love to buy now n add to my gears. But the fact it needs individual batteries, somewhat irks me.How far am i right / pls enlighten me--

The battery packs (Li-ion) are much more efficient. They last long between charges, charge in the same amount of time, and can be recharged more. They are, however, more expensive than any AA, even rechargeables, on the market.

The other downside to the lithiums is that they're usually proprietary: if it dies in the field and you dont have another, you're up a creek. If your AA batteries die in the field, you can get another set at just about any store.

Well, its true, that if your lithium rechargeables die in field than you are on your own but there is an upside to these lithium rechargeables as well, these are compact while AA is not that compact.
