Default which lens??

Hi guys,

Need help in buying lens. Im starting to get into wedding photography and right now Im torn between two types of all around lens. Tamron 17-50 mm or the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. I can't afford to buy those expensive lenses yet so I need help in choosing.

thanks!

I have the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8, which gets great reviews. However, if I had to do it again, I'd probably get a slightly wider lens (17 or 18mm at the low end).

Then again, the lens I use primarily during weddings is the Sigma 50mm f1.4. Not wide enough for group shots or long enough for the ceremony, but it takes really nice portraits, detail shots, and it's a great low-light lens for receptions.

Really, for a wedding, you need f2.8 glass across the whole 18-200mm and one or two good external flash units. And recently I found that the ultra-wide (10mm) angle lenses can make for some creative shots, especially during the ceremony and dance.

I have been researching quite a bit and am ready to pull the trigger on a sigma 18-50 f/2.8. It gets good reviews and can be had for about $420 new. Also, check out the new Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC which goes for around $650 I think. I have never done a wedding but from what I understand, you wont find 1 "do-all" lens for low light. however, an 18-50 f/2.8 would be a nice pair with a 70-200 f/2.8, then you have a good range with only a slight gap in there and that can be covered by a few steps.
