Hello everyone,
I'm having my Canon 450D for about 4 months now. I bought it together with the 17-55 IS kitlens. But now I would like to get a new lens because I notice that I lack some mm's. Would like to be able to use the lens for alot of purposes. (Around the house / Sports / Youth Movement / Parties / Landscape / Portrait / ... ) I know that doesn't really make it easier right? Got 200-300 € to spend. If needed a little bit more is possible too. Chris |

Save up a bit longer. 200-300 isnt going to be enough for much, especially if youre serious about the Sports/Portrait.
You could get the 55-250IS, which is quite nice and not too expensive, but it wont be much good for sports unless its out in bright daylight or portraits, but you can solve that with a simple Nifty Fifty.

I would say that Parties and Sports are rarely going to be covered by the same lens, at least not with any quality. Do yourself a favor and pick up a Prime 50mm, let it teach you what you need in your next lenses.

Are you able to take good sport pics with a 50mm f/1.8? Cause it's quite hard to take lets say soccer pics with it.. |

The 50mm is fine for portraits but its WAY too short for sports.
Ideally you'd have the 70-200 f/2.8. But youre looking at $1500. That'd fix you up for alot.

For daytime soccer, a consumer 70-300 zoom might work for you, but it will be limiting, especially with a 450D, which maxes out at 1600 iso. Most of the consumer zooms will have a max. aperture at f/5.6 at the long end, which is the widest aperture you can possibly use. And you may even need to stop that down for added sharpness. Camera shake and action speed will probably make you want to stay in the 1/100-1/500s shutter speed, and at f/8, that would mean sunshine and high isos are required to freeze the action. That's why an f/2.8 zoom is probably your best choice. But, as has been mentioned, those cost. The Sigma/Tamron variants of the 70-200 f/2.8 start around $800. Sports is probably the most demanding subject lens-wise, because you want it to be long and fast in combination; and preferably with a faster focus motor.
