Question lens question

im taking pictures for a friend who is expecting. she wants to start with some candid shots bc her hubby is EXTREMELY camera shy. then she wants to do portrait shots when hes warmed up.which lense can assist in getting these candid shots from a distance but zoom in enough to minimize cropping? i dont want to make him feel uncomfortable by holding my camera to his face every 5 seconds!

A 70-200mm is always a great lens for portrait sessions, covering both types of shots with one lens is quite convenient. I hear that 135mm is too short for good candid work like you want.

I don't think with someone really camera shy it would be a great idea to use a 70-200. It's a huge lens, and if you rack it out to 200mm you're going to have to stand a ways away to get shot framed, and nothing makes camera shy people more nervous than a photographer pointing a huge honking lens their direction.

That said a 85mm will still give you plenty of distance, and it won't look as intimidating. I think the best way to go about something like this would be to just get him used to the camera... the longer you're there, the more he'll get used to it.

Good luck.
