Question CF Card

Hi Fellow DPS members

I will be purchasing a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens early January to jump into sports photography.I will be using a canon 40D body and my question is this,at 6.5 fps is one brand of CF card quicker than another,if so, which brand should i use for my lens body combo?I will be shooting Raw files also.As i'm in New-Zealand i will be mostly shooting rugby, soccer in winter and cycling, surfing ect in summer.

I think SanDisk Extreme IV should be fine. I use SanDisk Ducati at 9 and 11 fps.

Hi Canonball,

Before looking at the CF card speed I think you should know what the buffer size is of your camera. It is possible to have a CF card able to read/write faster that your camera's buffer. So you will still have to wait for the camera's buffer to read/write to the CF card.

Look at this first, then look around for the appropriate CF card speed

Sandisk Extreme Pro or Lexar Professional 300x. I have mostly Lexars myself, but both are solid choices. You can probably get away with Extreme (not Pro) or the 233x, but I like to get as fast as I can.

Thanks all for your input.Peteroin i did not know anything about buffer size, and now i do,thanks,it seems as though i can take up to 20 raw files continuous shooting before buffer writes to card which should give me plenty of time before next burst,in saying that, i will use the sandisk extreme iv as my first option.Roll on January :-)
