Default Using Picasa & Lightroom

Hi all,

I currently use Picasa for my storage (and some light editing), and I use CS4 for my actual photo editing. I do have access to lightroom, but haven't really tried it yet.

So I have two questions:
1) Anyone use Picasa for managing which pictures you are going to edit later, and how are you doing it? When I sift through a new set of pictures, I may decide which are worth further editing - and edit them later. I could "star" them or tag them, but that seems to be a bit of a hassle in my mind, since I want to use the star function as intended to be my favorites.

2) Picasa (especially with the latest version & face recognition) does everything I would think I need to do, since I can launch CS4 directly from the image I want to edit, and Picasa will pick up new images I create in CS4. Other than my issue above, any reason I should spend time investigating lightroom?

Thanks!

- Michael

I don't know much about Picassa but I'm in love with lightroom. You can flag, assign star ratings, color codes, keywords....tons of organizing power there. Might even give you more options than Picassa, right there in the same program before you edit. You can also open photos in CS4 directly from LR.
My only complaint is that LR doesn't allow you to work with layers - but I guess they had to leave some incentive for us to purchase cs4
Here's a couple short videos on LR that might help

Hi Michael...I have been using Picasa for a few years and this year was delighted when I found out it also works with RAW files.

I mostly use it to share via email or post to my Blogger sites, or the Picasa albums. They also have some decent editing tools and options for creative things.... I think I'll always use it but like Amy, I'm inlove with Lightroom.

I'm on the picassa bandwagon as well. As a prosumer, I don't know what else you would need.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

PamEli - how are you using both together? Just curious how you're using Picasa and how you're using LR in that situation.

Thanks!
