Please help - Sigma lens stuck on macro

I have the 75-300mm Sigma and it is stuck in the macro mod which means that it will not retract to be put away. Any tips for un-sticking it? I'm afraid I'm going to break it.

goodgollycr, wouldja mind sharing how you fixed the problem, just in case other folk run in to this kind of thing in the future?

Were I a betting man, I'd bet a shiny nickel that it had something to do with the lens' focal length and focusing distance.

My Sigma 70-300, f'rinstance, won't go into macro mode unless the focal length is between 200-300 mm, and then, the focus ring opens up to focus between 150-95 cm.

However, I can't pull the lens out of macro mode until I put the focus ring over 150 cm.
