Default Do notebooks come with software?

Looked at some notebooks. I actually start to like them, because I can do some writing, checking emails and so.
A few come with software. I would like to see my RAW photos (but I understand there is a free software to download for that, Irfanview or something?) and also, if I have a notebook, might as well do some writing. So Microsoft Word or Text edit would be great too. Do most notebooks come with software?
(I have Mac computers)
If thats not the case, well, then I pay about 350 Can.dlrs plus software which is equal or even more compare to a Hyperdrive. Can anyone help me out, so i can decide this week what to do?

Get the netbook. It will give you the most in the way of flexability since it is in fact a mini laptop. Different netbooks come with different software but pretty much all of them will have some kind of text editors none of them will have photoshop standard however. I would recommend getting a program like Lightroom to view and organize the photos. Also you can shoot tethered with a netbook with you can not do with most photo viewers.

Yeah I will have a look and see what software comes with it. I actually have Lightroom on my Mac, I think it is also compatible with PC (have to doublecheck that) so I dont have to purchase another one. Am not sure if there is enough memory for LR on those netbooks? It would be great because I only shoot in RAW.

i understand what your asking, but my opinion is to keep em all and wait, then view and sort them later. it is best to to do this, because ya never know what you may get, and you might accidentally delete "that shot" that you wanted, but wasn't able to properly view it on the road.
Ditto....and memory cards are cheap!

Default No netbook

Just found out in the store that if I would get a notebook, it does NOT come with any software than just a trial version. Then if I like to install LR or any software I would need an external CD/DVD writer (130 dlrs) Nah!
Hyperdrive or.....yeah just a lot of memory cards.

This is my current system however the problem here is that there is no backup from corrupt cards, damage (physical/ magnetic etc) or loss/ theft.

Tks guys for highlighting this as I hadn't thought of all the risks, I'm going to consider another method.

I actually have a photoviewer that I use as backup but I also have a ton of memory cards. I dont delete on the road but use the photoviewer to backup on the road. If they had netbooks when I got the photoviewer I would have gotten that instead.

I ALWAYS have two copies of my photos. Not having a backup is just asking for trouble in my opinion.

Changed my mind. Buying the netbook comes with the Windows XP, that is email/internet and photoviewer or something like that. Don't need other software for just going on the internet and storing my memory cards as backup. Not going to edit/delete, just store photos that I take so I have a copy of my memory cards. I think that is the best solution and cheaper than Wolverine or Hyperdrive or Epson photoviewers. Yeah, am getting excited now. Think its going to be a HP Mini 10.1in Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz that comes with a with a 320GB external Hard Drive for free!

Default Final decision

I have decided to get the Acer Aspire One 8.9", yep a small one but always bigger than my Nikon camera display. It's going to be a travel device mostly to backup my memory cards. Yep and internet is bonus! Most of my editing I will do that at home on my 24" iMac!

Your a girl. I give it 3 days tops & you'll change your mind again.

That's a pretty good choice. I think that's what I would go with also, or something similar anyways. Good luck.
