I used once a plastic cup like this one :


My camera was in portrait orientation on a tripod. As it would not shake, the cup stayed naturally in place on the popped-up flash. I could have used either some adhesive tape or a large rubber band, if I wanted it to be attached.

The result is here. Not so good, but far better than the direct flash (two pictures photoshopped into one, i do not have a twin ):
