In that other thread where I mentioned the Gary Fong Lightsphere, I also had a link to a knock off on eBay that looked every bit just like the Gary Fong version, but for half the price. I probably would have never bought the Gary Fong, but for half the price, I might just buy it just for the "fun factor".

I, too, have made homemade bounce cards/diffusers, but too often they look too "homemade" and people laugh at me and then I go home and cry. So I figure a more non-homemade looking fish bowl might just confuse people enough to not say anything. Haha.

The key to the whole DIY thing is to have a professional looking logo on your home made diffuser. If there's a logo, people won't question its effectiveness.

Does anyone have ideas for diffusing the flash that's built into the camera (I have a Canon EOS 400D)? I tried to put a tissue in front if it but I couldn't see a big difference.

Ok, I know this is for a Nikon d50, but let's face it, those pop-up flashes all work pretty similar, so it should hopefully provide some ideas for you. There was a post not long ago on the d50 Users Flickr Group about this, so check out the discussion here. Hope that helps

Do you have any good comparison shots to share? Like a straight on flash picture. Then a bounced flash picture. Then a lightsphere picture. Thanks!

I just came back to this thread after trying a few ideas for diffusing on-camera flash. Tried the tissue paper and was disappointed. Tried a few other ideas that lead to dead ends.

But... I just had a flash of inspiration... I'm off to buy some table tennis balls and a craft knife...

I'll be back...

I may even have some photos...

If it works...
