Default I have an Opteka

I have the lens you are talking about... I noticed very little improvement in image quality after focusing, but this lens does make the Autofocus much more likely to hit the mark. It is nice for moving bugs and such.,...

I did think about resolution but decided not to ponder on it yesterday due to time constraints.

You can cut out a lot of the maths by ignoring the macro ratio. If I shoot something that is 10mm wide that can be made to fill about 1/4 of the horizontal frame, based on the measurement shots I did of my ruler. Given that figure, I can estimate how many pixels it will take up - at my present standard setting of 2256x1496 (D40 - medium size) the object will occupy about 560px across the screen (1/4 of 2256).

That is going to look nice and large on my present screen resolution (1024x768) although not quite so impressively big were I running at, say, 1600x1200.

If I switched to large pictures (about 3000px wide) the object would come out at about 750px wide in the final image. The sensor might make some difference but, as long as I got the focus right, the chances are the picture is still going to make me go wow!...

Wulf, I guess the fact that I have an 8MP camera is one reason I've been able to 'cheat' where my camera lacks in other areas (i.e. small sensor and lack of true macro lens). Thanks again for your explanations.

ELAY, despite the fact that my head still hurts too , I find that I have gained in the least something that sort of resembles understanding. The numbers are what really get me......let my quest for fuller understanding continue--slowly, but surely!

taykuyphotoart, thanks for the tip regarding the Opteka.
