I do *not* suggest making multiple, uncontrolled and unplanned copies.

When I manage to work my way out of my self-induced multiple-copy storage nightmare, I will have:
1) My originals on an external hard-drive which I will grab on my way out when evacuating due to fire/drought/earthquake/flood (I live in SoCal ... those are our four seasons )
2) Copies to DVDs. Which I will not trust over 5 years of age. CDs and DVDs do have a limited shelf life after which they might go bad! (And that five years might be optimistic.)
3) This is new, and I've decided this after reading this thread. I *will* find some online storage place for a third backup. And yes, it will be vulnerable to going out-of-business or ... whateVVer. So when I implement this I will consider the potential risks and mitigate for them.

I used to work for the Sacramento Sheriff's Department. Part of my job was to enter event reports. One night I noticed that there was a huge chunk of event numbers "missing". Yep. Three backups. All lost. There were lots of Sacramento miscreants who got off for technical reasons.

Stuff occurs.
