Forgot to add... Ah, has anyone else had any trouble with their Aperture library??... Me and a friend with the same sort of sized image libraries (between 30 and 40,000 images) loaded them into Aperture and both had the Library corrupt... when I say corrupt, I didn't lose any images, but the library wouldn't load when I opened the application. Had to rebuild the library.
Just saying... strange that it happened to two of us... Sime |

Hi All,
I use Aperture and while I love it, it seems a bit slow. I have a Mac Pro 2.66 GHz with 2GB of RAM. I only have the stock NVIDIA 7300GT card and have thought about upgrading, but the slowness seems to be with the hard drive access. I can hear the hard drive spinning like crazy and I get the spinning beach ball when just trying to go through the pictures in my library. My library is on 2 Seagate 400GB hard drives in a RAID 0 configuration so I don't think my hard drive speeds are the issue. Any suggestions? Would an upgraded graphics card make a difference? More Ram? Thanks. |

Been looking for ages to buy some software but the price/complexity of PS has put me off so far. Tell me - what is workflow? Is it true that post- editing makes the file sizes massive?
I won't want to enhance my photographs massively, so maybe Aperture would be good. Any idea when the next version will be launched? Thanks! |

Hey there Kate... So, workflow, for me, is Camera to PC / Mac to Editing (if required) to Finished Shot.
This is how my workflow used to look: Camera, memory card reader, copy to folder, open in paint shop pro, finished product.. This is when I was shooting in JPG the whole time.. now that i'm shooting raw all the time, I have changed the way I do things... Having tried Aperture and Lightroom I have decided to stick with LightRoom and the process is now as follows. Camera -> Lightroom -> Photoshop (if req'd) -> Finished product. The current ver of Aperture is 1.5.3 not sure of the product roadmap. You can download a trial HERE |

I'm relatively new to photography and shoot with a Leica V-LUX l and love it. For what little post processing I do I start with Vista's, Windows Photo Gallery to select or delete photos. Then, I crop and adjust Exposure settings. I then use a combination of Helicon Filter first and if needed I sometimes use Paint Shop Pro Xl, but not very often. I have been using these programs for about a year and they seem to fit my needs without over spending.
I really like the Helicon Filter because it's easy to use and has a retouching feature that lets me paint selected parts of the photo to remove noise, brighten/darken, change saturation, color, sharpen, remove aberrations, clone out objects and a distortion program that I have never used. I normally Resize, Remove noise, Sharpen/Blur, if needed, and lightn/darken a photo. I'm challenged when it comes to computers and Helicon Filter is pretty much, selfexplanatory. Very seldom do I then use PSP Xl but it's nice to have and sometimes there is something I might use it for that Helicon Filter does not do. After going crazy with post processing for a while I finally found out that less is more when it comes to post processing my photos. DonR. http://www.zoto.com/dsr1/albums |
