Can anyone recommend a good backpack? I need it to be all black... I have a D50, 18-55 kit lens, 55-200 lens, some filters and thats about it.. I also would like to have one that is capable of storing a laptop.
As I've told you all before internet sucks here in Iraq so I've spent several hours "surfing" more like uhh, waddling the internet with no luck... Thanks!

Not sure if you need it or not but the one I use holds my 15" laptop, Sony alpha, kit lens and 70-300 tele, along with charger, 4 memory cards, gorillapod SLR, 3 filters, my flash and still has a seperate compartment for things like food, parka etc.
Only taken it on a couple of trips around cities and the local Zoo, but it's MUCH nicer than my kit bag. Also fits just right in a carryon comaprtment so I never have to trust baggae handlers (not that I shouldn't, but with that much in the bag, I'd like to maintain eye contact at all times) It fits snug and is comfortable enough that I carried for 12 hours at a time. Only downside is you have to take it off to change lenses or filters, and it's grey. After traveling so much black bags are too easy to mix up, I use something just different enough to find it in a crowd if needed. It's the: Tamrac Adventure 9 Photo/Computer Backpack (Grey/Black) |

Lowepro make a great selection of backpacks in all sizes and "Slingshot" packs which is basically a pack that goes over one shoulder and across your chest so that it can easily be slid around to the front to get your camera out. You can check out their selection of products at http://www.lowepro.com/products/
Oh and almost all the packs come in black and a lot of them are weatherproof hope that helps

Jeerkahn: I came across that backpack yesterday morning prior to your post and am seriously considering it. Only thing I dont like is the black/grey, I need a black/black which they don't offer in that model. RitzCamera has it for $179 on their website but I saw it for $99 on PriceGrabber. Where did you get yours from and for how much?
Rex: Thanks, I'll check them out tonight when the firewall opens up... Tiberius: Does yours have spot to slide in a laptop? Thanks guys!!

I had a coupon/gift certificate to Amazon so I got it there. I'm not sure if they make a black/black version of the model.
The slingpacks are nice, and I'd use them around town, but I had to pack basically all my work gear and my camera gear as well as MP3 player and books for the flight, on a work trip and wanted to carry on everything but my clothes. I also looked at the Goombah and the Urban Gear U120 by Naneu. Both of those are black, and from what the site says they mat offer additional discount, they're more expensive but people that have them seem to like them alot. |

I just bought the compudaypak from Lowepro the other day and love it. Laptop compartment and the camera compartment are well designed. It has some grey on it but is black in my eyes.

Some of my photography magazines list a few good ones.
I'll try to post this again (I almost finished it the first time and lost the whole post )Here's the info I found in the magazines - hope something here can be helpful. 1. There is an article titled D-SLR Camera Bags, but most of them aren't backpacks. The only one shown is a Tenba Shootout Mini Backpack. ~holds DSLR, lenses, and accessories with a laptop pocket. ~has adjustable bottom straps to hold a monopod, umbrella, or ground cover. ~shown in gray/black but maybe it has other color choices. 2. Lowepro CompuTrekker AW Backpacks ~all 3 models shown in black ~hold DSLRs, lenses, media cards, laptops, and accessories - all to varying degrees depending on which on you get. ~said it will protect your gear under most severe weather conditions 3. Lowepro Vertex Series backpacks ~shown in black with gray interior ~holds DSLR, lenses, accessories, and laptop ~removable tripod holder to hold tri- or mono-pod ~all weather additional cover to protect against weather, sand, and dust (shown in gray/white but maybe they offer black too.) The article listed in #1 has references. Maybe these sites might have what you are looking for: Adorama (www.adorama.com) Billingham (R.T.S.) Hope there is something helpful here.

One of the better sites I've found for reviewing camera bags is
http://www.cambags.com/ Typically, people post pictures of the bag with equipment loaded, so you can get a feel for how much it will hold, and you also get photos comparing models. |
