Default Tripod for Nikon D5100

Hi,

I own Nikon D5100. I am also having Nikon 55mm-300mm Lens along with 18-55mm Lens. I am planning to buy Tripod. I am basically interested in Portrait, Macro, Landscape. I am getting confused in selecting Tripod. Can you please tell me

1. On what basis 3 way pan head and tilt etc can be selected.
2. What are best brands to go for?
3. Other factors which needs to be considered while buying Tripod.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,
Shirin Gupta.

FOr me, i prefer the tripod could be lowered as low as possible, and the legs could be twisted 180 degree, easier for travel.. 2m height.. i think there is a very good tripod recommended by the recent article in this website..

My personnel taste is ..
[url]http://www.3leggedthing.com/2gen/brianblue.html[url]

Reasoning:
a) Europe / US people are tall, you need a high tripod
b) Macro need a tripod to minimum height
c) Easier for travel

But i dislike the price.
I am currrently using lightstand with converter as tripod because they are extremely cheap and yields 2.8m height.I need height more than its flexibility, and portability.

1: Whatever you prefer. I love my 3-way head, but can't stand ball-heads. I went with a Manfrotto 804RC2 head.

2: 3LeggedThing seems to have good reviews, but I went with Manfrotto. You could also go with Benro.

3: Height (maximum and minimum, in use and for carrying), weight, support weight (how much it can support).

If you were interested in a Manfrotto, you'd be fine with a 190XPROB and a head that you like.

I'm using the same one as OS and I also really like my tripod.
I've carried it in water, sand, snow, and the leg still open/are stiff just like when I bought it.
