Default Manfrotto 055XB Tripod w/ Pan/Tilt Head... Good?

Not sure if they work together but from what I've read it does, but I'm looking to replace my broken cheap tripod that last for 1year for product and still studio photography primarily so I got these two options as my best options and still affordable.

Manfrotto 055XB Tripod Legs (Black) - Supports 15.4 lbs (7kg)

Manfrotto 808RC4 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head with RC4 Quick Release - Supports 17.6 lb (8kg)

Budget: $265

I do plan on adding in the future to these legs above Manfrotto 701HDV Pro Fluid Video Mini Head

Sounds like a good pick, I would also consider the Manfrotto 055XPROB model, the specs are similar but the PROB model can do the horizontal center column flip.

Thanks for the suggestion I will look into that! But question is does the heads I choose will work on either leg tripods?

Yes any of the heads will work with the tripod, I happen to own the 190 compared to the 055 as I'm under six foot and don't require the extra reach of the 055. I love it.

I have the 055XPROB with the 804RC2 head and love it. I'd definitely opt for the PROB version over the B because of the column adjustments that it gives you.

Yup: works great. If you're in soft ground you might be better off getting the spiked feet along with it. Just make sure it's well secured to any bag: it *is* a heavy combination

He could always spend the extra money an get the carbon fiber version, it's well worth the money. The spiked feet are a nice option as you will also gain another inche, but for the price of over $30 for the set that gets a little crazy.

I use 60mm dia. "pad" feet. Spiked/regular feet sink into soft ground, sometimes quite far.
