hey everyone,
I currently own a recording studio (audio), and i love it. That's my career, but i've always had an appreciation for high quality photography, and post processing. This is not a meant to be a profession, its more so for my own enjoyment//hobbyist level. Anyways, i'm about to buy a Canon T2i w/ EF-S 18-55 II Kit Lens, many friends (and some things i've read) say i should look into buying a 50mm 1.8 prime lens. Some say canon, some say sigma. Truth be told i tried reading through some of the stickied articles but they are too technical and things are just going over my head. i guess bottom line is i'm going to have to go to the store and try before i buy, but in your experiences: tl;dr: what lens/lens type would be beneficial to use when trying to take picture/capture footage in/of a recording studio. Thanks in advance! edit: alot of friends reccomend the 50mm 1.8, i looked at youtube clips and if i were to get that, i'm not sure when/if i'd ever use the kitlens that comes with the t2i. so should i just get the body and the 50mm? :S Last edited by hybrizzle; 02-05-2012 at 05:19 AM. |

Depends how big the area is. You might find yourself quite limited with a 50mm lens if you're in a rather small area (e.g. you may only be able to do head and shoulder shots or less). Something like a 35mm or 20mm might be better (but it depends!).

Just start with the 18-55 lit lens and learn how to use the camera, learn exposure and composition, then make some decisions on what other lenses might be right for the type of photography you want to do. The 18-55 II is a pretty good lens and will serve fine as a learning tool.

You will already have a 50mm lens when you get the kit 18-55. That being said...if you like the 50mm range but need more light and a bit sharper image, what's another hundred bucks. The 50mm 1.8 is a good lens for the money. The 1.8 being the strong pt. I'd say practice with the kit and see if you like it zoomed all the way out (55mm). That's what you'll get with the 50mm but with the prime you can shoot in lower light conditions and/or get better bokeh.

i guess there is a reason to buy the camera with the lens kit. it'll give me different shots, and hey i'm no pro so its a good starting point.
so maybe ill get the t2i with 18-55mm and the 50mm 1.8 i have been looking at videos made with the 50mm 1.8 and i dont see what it wont work for the studio :P the studio isnt very big, its a small room, but i'm interested in taking new pictures for my website. i want them to be like full screen pictures... not sure how this is going to work at all :P edit: there's actually a canon t3i + 50mm 1.8 bundle for cheaper than the t2i lol, so i might just get that? |
