Default Prime lens for landscape photography

I am going to visit St. John in a Couple of months and planning on getting a new lens for the trip. My only focus for this lens will be for landscape and beach shots. My budget is going to be around 2000 dollar give or take and I am wanting some advice on what lens you might recommend. Ill be shooting with my Canon 5D Mark II.

If you're set on getting a prime you could do the 24mm f/1.4L, although if it were me I would strongly consider the 17-40mm f/4L, the 16-35mm f/2.8L, or if you're not so concerned with getting ultra-wideangle, a higher quality standard zoom like the 24-105 f/4L or the 24-70 f/2.8L.

For $2k? Hell, grab a 24mm or 45mm TSE

+1. 17-40 or 16-35 II are probably the best choices if you wanted ultrawide. 14L or 24L for primes.

Uh... the TS-E 17?

One other weird alternative, which probably won't appeal to you with your budget, is the Samyang/Rokinon 14mm f/2.8. Manual lens. But 14mm on a full frame, which is something. Exhibits wave distortion (barrel & pincushion combined), so you'll need correction software that can handle that (i.e., don't count on Photoshop to fix this one for you).

I would also say that if you don't normally shoot at the beach, consider ways to protect your gear from water and sand. The 5Dii is not weather-sealed like a 1 series.

Nah, 17mm on full-frame is just too wide for "general" landscape use. If necessary use the tilt-shift functions to stitch.
